How to Play Tangram: Rules, Strategy & Free Puzzles

Tangram is a hands-on shape-fitting puzzle. The board is cut into several flat pieces, and you place and rotate each one so that together they tile the target shape exactly, leaving no gaps and no overlaps. Tap a piece in the tray to pick it up, tap the board to drop it, and rotate until everything clicks into place.

How to play Tangram

  1. Use every piece. All the tray pieces must be placed to complete the shape.
  2. Rotate to fit. Turn a piece to any angle it needs so its edges line up.
  3. No overlaps. Pieces may touch but never overlap one another.
  4. Fill it exactly. The shape is solved when the pieces cover it completely with no gaps.
